This page is a plain-English summary. The complete terms that apply to every DVS rental are set out in our Full Rental Terms.

1. Eligibility & licence

Drivers must be aged 23 or over and hold a full UK driving licence held for at least 2 years. Drivers with more than 6 penalty points cannot hire. Some endorsements below that are acceptable; others may incur an excess loading. We perform a DVLA licence check on collection. Photo ID and two recent proofs of address (within 90 days) are required.

2. Mileage allowance

Daily and weekly hires include a tiered mileage allowance: 250 miles for each of the first 2 days, then 100 miles per day thereafter. Flexi (28-day) hire includes 2,000 miles. Flexi hires beyond 28 days have their allowance set in the agreement.

3. Deposit & insurance excess

Every hire takes a refundable deposit and carries an insurance excess. The amounts depend on the vehicle.

Large / Extra Large Vans£250£1,500
Luton / Tipper / Dropside Vans£250£2,000

What is a deposit?

A deposit is a temporary hold on your card while the vehicle is on hire. It helps cover damage, missing fuel, fines, late return charges, or rental extensions.

Deposit release

Released once the vehicle is returned on time, in good condition, and with the correct fuel level. Release timing depends on your bank — typically up to 7 days.

Want to lower your excess? See Excess Protection below.

4. Optional extras

Two optional add-ons can be applied at the time of booking.

5. Accidents & roadside recovery

All accidents must be reported. Recovery for our vehicles is handled by United Incident Support (powered by TTS360). If you're involved in an accident on the public highway, please call them immediately on the number below — and tell any Police Officers on scene that recovery has been arranged through United Incident Support / TTS360.

If recovery is not authorised by United Incident Support / TTS360, the vehicle owner and insurer reserve their statutory rights under Road Traffic Legislation to refuse payment of any vehicle recovery and storage charges. Please always call the number above before arranging your own recovery.

What to do at the scene

  1. Make sure everyone is safe and call 999 if anyone is injured.
  2. Call 0333 207 9654 to start recovery.
  3. Take photos of the vehicles, scene, and any other parties' details.
  4. Call DVS on 01664 563 275 once you've spoken to the incident line.

6. Fuel policy

Vehicles are supplied on a like-for-like basis. The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level it went out with. If it is returned with less, the shortfall is refuelled at our cost-plus rate, as shown at sign-on. AdBlue, where the vehicle uses it, is supplied at collection and tops are charged at cost if needed.

7. Damage & cleanliness

Vehicles are inspected at collection and return. You are responsible for any damage that exceeds fair wear and tear, including interior damage. Vehicles must be returned in a reasonable state of cleanliness; an additional cleaning charge applies if extra valeting is required.

8. Returns & late charges

Vehicles must be returned to our depot by the agreed return time. A return more than 1 hour after the agreed time counts as late, and an additional day's hire may be charged. Out-of-hours returns must be agreed in advance.

9. Cancellation

Bookings cancelled with 48+ hours notice are refunded in full. Cancellations within 48 hours of pickup may incur a charge of one day's hire. No-show bookings are not refundable. Flexi hires may have separate cancellation terms set out in the specific agreement.

10. Liability disclaimer

We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from vehicle breakdown, late delivery, or hire interruption. In the event of mechanical failure not caused by the hirer, we will provide a replacement vehicle as soon as reasonably practicable. Nothing in this section excludes liability where it cannot be excluded by law.
